Strongman Standards

Standards Matter

There are far too many lifts that pass these days as good lifts, because there are no set standards in strongman. Rules vary and are open to interpretation. Part of what makes this sport great is the variety of lifts, but as it progresses there needs to be standards for what constitutes a good lift. On this site there are graphics and short directions for reference to help athletes, judges and fans. It is a work in progress and will be a living document.

To the left is a link to a post Jerry Pritchett made a while back about the lax standards for deadlifts recently. I believe it was after Giants Live where a bunch of guys broke the 1,000 mark but a lot of lockouts were soft.

Standards are key because we want to eliminate asterisks from people records. If there were standards and you met them there would be less ambiguity.
